How Do I Install Wow Addons WORK

In this article, we will walk over how to use both approaches. Since installing and maintaining addons is much easier with a manager, we will start there.if(typeof ez_ad_units != 'undefined')ez_ad_units.push([[250,250],'arcaneintellect_com-box-4','ezslot_9',112,'0','0']);__ez_fad_position('div-gpt-ad-arcaneintellect_com-box-4-0');

how do i install wow addons

If you are more of a visual person, you can check out the YouTube guide I made. In the video, I talk about using open-source managers like WowUp. While you can still use WowUp, it recently lost access to the server where addons are hosted and will not be a good option for updating many popular addons.

After downloading the appropriate version of the CurseForge app for your operating system, you will be guided through a standard program installation. It will take a moment to obtain the latest update and then launch. After opening, you will see a list of the games for which CurseForge supports mods.

if(typeof ez_ad_units != 'undefined')ez_ad_units.push([[300,250],'arcaneintellect_com-large-mobile-banner-1','ezslot_11',161,'0','0']);__ez_fad_position('div-gpt-ad-arcaneintellect_com-large-mobile-banner-1-0');If you are using Windows, it will be located at C:\Program Files (x86)\World of Warcraft\_retail_\Interface\AddOns by default. If you changed the location when you installed WoW, you will have to find that location.

Notice that this location is for installing AddOns in the retail version (currently Shadowlands) and not WoW Classic. If you want to install WoW Classic AddOns you will find the same folder but navigate to \_classic_\Interface\AddOns instead.

Now that you found your folder, you need to download the addons you want from the CurseForge website. You can find addons by using the search and filter features available on CurseForge.if(typeof ez_ad_units != 'undefined')ez_ad_units.push([[250,250],'arcaneintellect_com-large-mobile-banner-2','ezslot_16',162,'0','0']);__ez_fad_position('div-gpt-ad-arcaneintellect_com-large-mobile-banner-2-0');

Once you have downloaded and installed the app, you will be prompted to either log in with your Twitch account or create one. Once you have completed this, you will be presented with a screen similar to that of the Twitch homepage. For the purposes of downloading addons, you can ignore this and should instead click on the "Mods" option at the top of the app. Select World of Warcraft and you will be presented with the following two tabs: "My Addons" and "Get More Addons".

Select the "Get More Addons" tab and then click on the search bar. You can now search for any addon you wish to install, either by name or category. Once you have found one you wish to install, simply hit "Install", wait for it to be done and then start up your WoW client to try it out!

Once you have the file extracted and on your computer, you will need to find the location of your WoW installation. This is likely going to be in your Program Files folder, located on your main HDD or SSD. The domain will likely look similar to this:

Once downloaded, you need to extract the .zip file and install the client. After doing so, you will need to locate your WoW installation, as you did above. Once done, you will be prompted to either log in with your Tukui account or make one.

You can now use the client to install either Tukui or ElvUI for your client, both of which are major visual overhauls to the base Blizzard interface. You can also use it to download new addons, as you do in the Twitch App.

If the addon is wrapped in another folder, you will not see it in your in-game list. If you are not seeing your addons, double-check your folders in the AddOns folder of the game. Using WinRAR on Windows is the recommended option as it tends to extract to a folder directly.

There are a lot of WoW addons out there, so it's easy to get overwhelmed if you're not sure what to look for. Those listed here are some of the most popular, along with a few of our personal favourites. So whether you're logging in for hours every day or just pop in a couple of times a week, you're sure to find something to make your time in Azeroth that much easier.

The popular method for installing WoW addons is through an addon manager, and there have always been several to choose from. But Overwolf acquired CurseForge (opens in new tab), WoW's biggest addon repository, back in 2020 and has recently put a stop to other addon managers accessing its API. Apps like WowUp (opens in new tab) still work, but you won't be able to install or update addons from CurseForge.

Alternatively, if you'd prefer to install your addons manually without the need for extra software, it's a fairly quick and painless process. Simply download the addon, extract it from the ZIP file and drop it into the Addons folder located in your World of Warcraft installation, which you should find at World of Warcraft/_retail_/Interface/Addons.

Using the manual method means you'll have to keep track of addons yourself and follow the steps above every time an update is available. That can be tiresome, so if you plan on running more than a couple of addons, it's probably worth your while looking around for an addon manager to save you valuable time that could otherwise be spent in Azeroth.

Now that you're all set up, let's take a look at some great addons to try. All of these addons (except ElvUI in some cases) can be found via most addon managers, but we've also linked to sites where you can manually download them.

This is one of the most popular total conversion addons for World of Warcraft. ElvUI replaces every single user interface element with a sleek redesign that is a lot more modern and readable. The tradeoff, of course, is that you're also getting rid of the fantasy-themed UI altogether. Historically, you've always had to install and update ElvUI manually, and while this isn't too much of a chore, there are a number of newer addon managers popping up that allow you to update it along with your other addons. But even if you decide to stick with manually updating it, what ElvUI brings to the table makes the sacrifice more than worth it.

One of my favorite parts about ElvUI is that it comes with an in-game setup process that'll help tailor the UI to suit your needs. There are class-specific setups that emphasise the interface elements most important to your role, and the settings have a ton of options to play with. I particularly love how the action bars behave in ElvUI, and its built-in addons mean you won't have to fuss with other addons like OmniCC. Just beware, if you want to use ElvUI, install it first before bringing more addons into the fold because it doesn't always play nice.

Download from: CurseForge (opens in new tab)The other major addon that you shouldn't be without, Deadly Boss Mods makes World of Warcraft's complex boss fights a little more approachable by providing real-time alerts to keep you one step ahead. With this addon (and its other versions for older expansions) installed, you won't have to painstakingly memorize every boss fight. Alerts and camera effects will warn you of dangerous attacks or give you simple instructions. Raid and dungeon timers are synchronized between other members of your group, which keeps everyone on the same page even if one player accidentally disconnects.

There are a lot of addons to choose from that change the appearance of the default Blizzard nameplates and make them much easier to see during combat. Despite the name, Threatplates can be used by any class and spec and isn't limited to tanks. As with many other addons, the nameplates will change colour, based on your threat generation but there is a lot more customisation available if you want to play around with the options.

Of course, much of your decision when choosing a nameplate addon will come down largely to personal preference. One of the things I love about Threatplates is the little quest icon that appears above the enemy nameplate if they are required to complete an active quest. I'm sure there are addons that do the same but Threatplates does what I require and I see little reason to change it now.

When Blizzard patches WoW, they change the Interface number. This means that all mods will be "out of date" unless or until the author releases a new version for that interface. Some people go into the .toc files and update the numbers themselves, but this is STRONGLY advised against as it will cause problems locating possible incompatible addons. When you log into WoW after a patch, you DO NOT have to delete your interface directory. All you have to do is simply tell WoW to ignore the interface numbers and load all the mods anyway. All you have to do is, while at the "character select" screen, look in the lower left corner and click on the "addons" button. A window will pop up listing all your installed mods.

Looking for the best WoW Classic addons? With the imminent release of Wrath of the Lich King Classic, you might have decided to take the plunge back into Blizzard's old-school MMO. While World of Warcraft is still going strong, the original user interface leaves a lot to be desired. Luckily, there are a number of addons that help tidy things up a bit.

Many of today's WoW addons (opens in new tab) won't work in Classic, but there are plenty that have their own separate versions. So if you're planning to venture back to Northrend and eventually confront the Lich King himself at Icecrown Citadel, you should make sure your UI is up to the task. Here's a list of the best WoW Classic addons you can use to help make your journey back in time that much easier.

Mac users must double click on the file to extract all of it into a new folder named after the mod. Then use 'Finder' to navigate to 'Applications'. Look for the World of Warcraft folder, then the _classic_ folder inside, then 'Interface', then 'AddOns'. Copy your new folder (the one named after the mod) into the 'AddOns' folder. Then the next time you start WoW from scratch your new addons will be active.
